The New York State Board of Regents elected Regent Betty Rosa as Chancellor and Regent T. Andrew Brown as Vice Chancellor of the Board on March 21, 2016. Their terms are effective April 1.
Rosa was elected by a vote of 15-0; there were two abstentions. Rosa is a former Bronx superintendent and principal. Rosa has been critical of issues in recent years including the rollout of the Common Core State Standards and the annual professional performance review system. She has been endorsed by leaders of the test refusal movement. Rosa has served on the Board of Regents since 2008.
Brown is an attorney with the Rochester law firm Brown & Hutchinson LLP. He has served on the Board of Regents since 2012.
