About: The Education Summit & Expo is held in June every year and offers a wide array of educational programs on topics of interest to school business officials as well as a Trade Show that showcases the very best services and products available to school districts. The 3 ½ day event offers at least 18.5 hours of continuing education credit toward meeting state certification requirements for School District Business Leaders (SDBLs) and up to 16.5 hours of CPE credit for Certified Public Accountants.

An Invitation...

On behalf of the Board of Directors and  Executive Director Michael Borges, I would like to invite you to attend the 70th Education Summit & Expo in beautiful and historic Saratoga Springs. I want to extend a special thank you to Marian Chrisman and Steve Zautner, Co-Chairs of the Annual Conference and Education Summit Committee, as well as the staff for their outstanding efforts to create an enriching conference.
Each incoming president is tasked with choosing a conference theme. This year, I selected, The Dreams of Today are the Realities of Tomorrow. Imagine our Association and this conference- originally a dream for the founders of our Association, now a reality for so many school business professionals coming together for enrichment and networking still 70 years later.

As school leaders, our dreams for our districts and vision for what we want to ensure for students can shape the experience of many young lives. Our decisions and the counsel we provide are far reaching and impactful. Attending professional development workshops and conferences like the Education Summit are important. They give us the opportunity to network, discuss, and learn. They help us become better dreamers as I imagine was the vision of those who started this event so many years ago.

Keynote Luncheon: Leadership Redefined with Dave Weber

Leadership used to be defined by position or title, responsibility or authority. While these descriptions may have worked in the past, they are far too narrow for the challenges facing education today. The time has come for a new kind of leader…a leader without a title. Dave Weber shows that every individual, Superintendent to Secretary, can have a profound influence on the educational experience of a child.

Dave names 12 key principles in the form of words that all begin with ‘X’! For example: “Xtract a Dream, Xtend a Helping Hand, Xpose Yourself to Winners…” This fast, fun, and highly interactive session is sure to impact all of the participants both professionally and personally. Using humor, cartoons, and interactive activities everyone gains insight on: the power of goals, getting out of ruts, what needs to be purged, impact of role models, staying on course, givers versus takers, getting people on board, considering new options, and not letting others pull you down.

Participants will discover the secrets to inspire a team to make progress on purpose in achieving their goals, learn how to overcome opposition and the negative attitudes, examine expectations so communication has a positive impact on relationships, and, if needed, explore alternative actions to change a school culture.

Education Summit Scholarship Fund

In 2015, NYSASBO created the Education Summit Scholarship Fund to give new School Business Officials (or active/institutional/SBO staff members who have not attended the conference in the past three years or if their school district budget was defeated the previous year) the opportunity to attend the conference. The scholarship will cover the cost of registration and hotel.

The purpose of this Scholarship Fund is to address the main reason (budgetary constraints) that school business office staff cannot attend the Education Summit and Expo. Recipients will also be invited to attend the Past Presidents and Future Leaders Reception on Sunday at the conference to mix and mingle with other recipients, fund sponsors, and the association's leaders.

If you are interested in applying for the Education Summit Scholarship, please fill out the application form and tell us why you have not attended in the past and why you wish to attend this year.

Click here to apply. Application Deadline: April 20.

Thank you to the following companies for their generous support of the Education Summit Scholarship Fund: New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal (7), Utica National Insurance Group (7), FINANCE MANAGER (2), OMNI (2), New York Liquid Asset Fund (2), NYBEST Agency (1), WinCap-Harris Computer Solutions (1).
