Upcoming Workshops for the Month of September
September kicks off the Fall 2010 Institute Program with the Personnel Management I Online Course running from September 1 through the 30th. This online course will give insights into why human capital is one of the greatest resources for any employer, including schools. A coordinated approach to human resources management maximizes the productivity of employees and protects the district against potential litigation. Included in this online course, with the option to register for them separately without taking the online course are two webinars in September. The Employment Records Webinar is on the 16th from 2:00 pm. - 3:30 pm and Payroll Administration Webinar on September 22, 2010, also 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm. read more »
Still Accepting Applications for the SBO Leadership Academy - Deadline Extended!
NYSASBO has extended the deadline for applications for the SBO Leadership Academy to Friday, September 3rd. The SBO Leadership Academy is designed to develop and enhance the leadership skills of practicing school business officials. With sessions held in relaxed and professional settings, the Academy is geared toward the experienced SBO who is technically proficient and wishes to become a true educational leader. To qualify for selection, applicants must be someone who will benefit from leadership development, have a minimum of three (3) years experience in some aspect of school business management, and be an active member of NYSASBO. UPDATE: Important Announcement for Financial Management, Auditing, and Accounting Workshop Registrants
The threat of a state government shutdown ended Monday evening when the latest budget extender legislation passed the state Senate 34-27. As expected, Democratic Senator Ruben Diaz Sr. voted no, but three Republicans, Hugh Farley, Roy McDonald and Carl Fuschillo, broke with their party to vote yes and keep the government running. With the budget extender now passed, the Financial Management, Auditing, and Accounting workshops to be held in Syracuse on June 16th and Lake Placid on June 17th will run as scheduled. read more »
Dr. John B. King, Jr. Speaking at the NYSASBO Annual Conference
Dr. John B. King, Jr., Senior Deputy Commissioner for P-12 Education will be speaking at this year’s Annual Conference during lunch on Tuesday, June 8th. The lunch is scheduled from 12:00 to 1:30 pm. Dr. King began his tenure as Senior Deputy Commissioner on October 5, 2009. In his remarks, Dr. King will share the latest on the State’s education reform efforts and the impact they may have on the role and responsibilities of the school business official. read more »
