The SBO Leadership Academy is designed to develop and enhance the leadership skills of practicing school business officials. With sessions held in relaxed and professional settings, the Academy is geared toward the experienced SBO who is technically proficient and wishes to become a true educational leader.

Structure of Academy
The SBO Leadership Academy is an intensive program consisting of two sessions. Session I & II will begin with lunch on the first day and will conclude at 4:00 p.m. the last day. Sessions will consist of inspiring presentations and discussions of pre-assigned readings, lecture and other methods of program content delivery, small group work, and case study discussion and presentation. Rotating around the State, Session I will be held in October 2008, Session II in November 2008.
Cost
Substantial financial support for the Academy will be provided by NYSASBO and corporate sponsors. As a result, the total cost of the Academy (incl. accommodations, meals, and materials) will be $650. Participant’s share is set at $250, while the District is expected to contribute $400.
Curriculum
Each session will focus on state of the art and tried and true methods of leadership, and will incorporate a variety of presentation techniques. Pre-assigned readings and case studies will be used in each session as means to strengthen participants' skills.

2009 Annual Conference
A two hour strand on leadership with a speaker/case study and an opportunity for past and current SBO Leadership Academy participants to discuss the application of principles learned through the Academy.
Instructors
Faculty for the Academy will consist of successful leaders from both the public and private sector.
Instruction will be provided in a variety of formats to include keynote presentations, interactive instruction, dynamic case studies, and reflective discussion of selected readings.
Keynote presenters will share their vision and knowledge behind their success.

Evaluation
The Academy should ultimately provide value to the participants, their employer, and NYSASBO. To this end, feedback will be solicited from the participants and their district. Participant evaluation will occur at the end of each session. Also following each session, the participant and the school district’s superintendent will be asked to meet and assess the impact of the Academy on the school district. This cumulative assessment will be submitted following the conclusion of the final session.
