Keynote Speaker: Joel Weintraub

Joel Weintraub is a “humorous educator” who has managed to merge the two formerly disparate worlds of comedy and education. By combining his professional comedy experience with his Master's degree in Exercise Physiology and his Bachelor's in Health Education from Temple University, Joel has entertained and educated audiences as diverse as physicians, attorneys, accountants, church groups, synagogues and even burglar alarm installers. From the “World Bank” to Dangerfield’s Comedy Club to major radio stations, the local news and the Food Channel… they have all laughed and learned with “Humor for the Health of It”.

Experience how to laugh at yourself and be motivated to take the time to capture the joy while discovering a fresh perspective on life. Learn how humor can increase creativity, productivity, memory and reduce the incidence of disease. Exercise and nutrition tips are also included.

The world is riddled with stress and it is difficult to find time for work/life balance, but you will learn how to manage your stress while finding a few extra minutes in your day for yourself and your family. You also discover how to how to change from a state of depression and anxiety to one of happiness, hope and productivity; but perhaps most important of all, you learn about the magical benefits of incorporating humor in your life.

SBMW Certificate Requirements

NYSASBO has developed a New York State School Business Management Institute effective July 1, 2009, to support school business professionals by offering them a comprehensive program of professional development to ensure effective and ethical management of educational resources in school districts across New York State. For those who must meet the requirements of the State Education Department’s School District Business Leader (SDBL) certification, participation in the Institute’s program is also an efficient and effective way of receiving all the hours of continuing education required to maintain certification. In line with the Institute’s requirements, enrollees attending the workshop may receive a certificate for their selected strand by attendance at four (4) regular sessions of the chosen strand at each of three (3) Summer Business Management Workshops within the five (5) year enrollment period. You may enroll in the New York State School Business Management Institute on the NYSASBO website at http://www.nysasbo.org/files/NYS-SBMI%20Enrollment%20Form.pdf.

Based upon past requirements of the SBMW program, those who are completing their final year for the strand they have chosen will be awarded their certificate of completion after the specified session in the schedule, if they have met the requirements below.

  • Two consecutive years of participation in the same strand for the District Treasurer and Payroll certificate.
  • Three consecutive years of participation in the same strand for the SBO-Fiscal, Critical Issues and District Clerk certificate.
  • A roster of forecasted certificate recipients will be posted near the registration desk. Please take a few moments to confirm that your name appears on the list if you anticipate receiving your certificate this year. Once you have received an SBMW certificate under the old requirements your receipt of a future SBMW certificate will be subject to the new Institute requirements.

Instructional Materials Policy

Handouts are organized and distributed by strand selection. Participants receive a full set of handouts for their selected strand (see registration form.) If you wish to receive materials for a strand other than the one in which you’ve registered, you may purchase additional strand materials for $25 per strand. You will receive your selected materials as you check in at the SBMW registration desk, located at the Holiday Inn Albany, Upper Mezzanine. You also have the option to purchase a CD-ROM containing all strand materials for $75 which will be mailed upon completion of the workshop. Those who wish to attend sessions outside their selected strand will not receive any handouts for that session unless they have pre-ordered a full set of materials. NYSASBO will honor requests submitted prior to July 2, 2010.
