New York State schools stand to get a substantial amount of money from the stimulus package that President Obama signed into law in February. The U.S. Department of Education estimates that New York State will receive $2.5 billion in funds designated as “State Stabilization Funds” in the stimulus package, whose aim is to help avert reductions in education services and to fund expected increases. School systems have discretion to use some of this money for school modernization.
