General Sessions

Keynote Address by Susan Conners
Monday, June 4, 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
At this year's conference, you will have the opportunity to hear from Susan Conners, a wonderful and unique speaker who has brought educators to their feet with a truly compelling and inspiring story. Afflicted with Tourette Syndrome, Ms. Conners has made it her life's work to serve as an educational advocate for children with TS and to create public understanding about what TS is and isn't. Her personal and professional story is about how each of us, through passion and dedication, can overcome great challenges to make a difference in the lives of children.
Ms. Conners will show us how, as school business officials, we can play a pivotal role in ensuring all students receive the best education possible, even students with complex problems that may stem from deeper roots than is obvious. We play a critical role in ensuring instructional staff have the resources to get the training necessary to recognize the symptoms of Tourrettes and other disorders, as well as how to cope with the individual student and the effects it might have on the classroom. These children deserve proper understanding and appropriate services in schools, as do all children in our schools. And as school business officials, we can make sure that happens. This general session is sponsored by Bank of America.
